“Two and a quarter square”
About these photographs…

For many years I worked exclusively with a Rolleiflex twin-lens-reflex camera. I enjoyed the quality of the medium format negatives and the accuracy of the waist-level, ground glass, viewing system. Along the Mississippi River, Photographs from Beecher, Illinois, and several other portfolios were all made with this camera and are included in this collection.

What I enjoyed most about the Rollei, though, was the 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" square format. There was something about it that perfectly suited the way I put together the elements of an image—allowing for a calm, almost meditative, representation of the world.
