The target attribute gives the page author control of where the information from a selected URL will appear. By default, when a link is selected, the data appears in the same window as the link.
With the target attribute, a link can open a new window
Or, of more use, the target attribute can change the content in a specific frame within the existing window.
There are also four "special" TARGET names which have useful functions.
