New Speakers Note 1: If you're going to keep the low-powered
factory head unit, a sensitivity of 92dB or higher will give you best
results. Note 2: Though I installed Infinity 652i's with no problem, a few people have been unable to get the front-door grilles to reseat properly due to the tweeter height. You might want to consider Infinity components in the front doors or using Polks instead. |

Rating the Results
1 Not Bad For Factory: this is what you get stock. A little bass thump & tweeter sparkle but mostly muddy middle.
2 Pretty Damn Decent: Upgrading the four door speakers and the tweeters gets you here - better mid-to-high, more clarity.
3 Kick Ass: Would take a lot more than just speakers...

Dimensions of the Infinity Reference 652i speakers as
indicated on the box. |
 |
Infinity
and factory speaker. Mounting depth is almost identical. Tweeter and
rubber surround add about 3/8" to height of Infinity. |
 |
Speakers
with Crutchfield. adapters attached. (Adapter ends
had to be crimped to get secure fit on speaker terminals.) |
 |
This
metal ring is part of the Infinity install kit. It allows you
to use the existing holes, but adds too much height and prevents front
grilles from re-seating so I removed it and mounted the speakers
directly to the door. |
 |
Front
speaker mounted (without Infinity metal ring). Speakers with less
mounting height (such as component mids) would probably work fine
with the ring. |
 |
Rear
speaker connected to factory wiring with Crutchfield adapter. The
rear speakers would also work fine with Infinity's metal ring since the enclosures have a lot more surface mount room. |
